911 call helps police nab alleged car thief
An alert witness helped police catch an alleged car thief Friday night in Waianae.
A 33-year-old man called 911 around 8:50 p.m. after he observed a 23-year-old man having difficulty parking, according to police. The caller provided police with the vehicle’s license number, which came up in the department’s system as reported stolen, police said.
Police located the suspect at 9:10 p.m., and the witness positively identified him. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
Crash in Mililani injures motorcyclist
A 23-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized in serious condition after a crash on H-2 freeway in Mililani Friday evening.
The man was traveling south on H-2 at about 7:40 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a car, a city Department of Emergency Services spokesman said. Both appeared to be speeding, he said.
The motorcyclist was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
Kapolei man charged with credit card theft
A 25-year-old Kapolei man was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail after being charged for allegedly trying to use a stolen credit card in Nanakuli in September.
Police said surveillance video from the convenience store showed Kaniela Perez attempting to use the stolen credit card at about 10:21 a.m. on Sept. 6.
He was arrested on an unrelated warrant on Wednesday and subsequently charged with various counts, including fraudulent use of a credit card, identity theft and theft.
