Imai sisters help Vulcans top Wildcats
Sisters Kamie and Kirsty Imai combined to score more than half of their team’s points, leading Hawaii-Hilo to a 68-56 victory over Central Washington in women’s basketball on Monday in Ellensburg, Wash.
Kamie Imai made 10 of 13 shots from the field and finished with 21 points — she also had team highs of seven rebounds and four assists — and Kirsty Imai added 14 points. The Vulcans rallied from a 34-26 halftime deficit to improve to 3-4.
Courtney Johnson led the Wildcats (4-5) with 18 points.
BYUH women fall to Alaska-Anchorage
The Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s basketball team fell to 1-4 on Monday with a 100-68 loss to Alaska Anchorage (5-2) in Anchorage, Alaska.
Shayla Washington had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Danna Lynn Hooper also scored 16 to lead the Seasiders.
Sasha King had 27 points and 11 assists, and Alysa Horn scored 25 points for the Seawolves.
Men’s honor roll
Junior Ale, BYUH: The senior guard out of Kahuku averaged 19 points and 2.5 assists in the Seasiders’ losses to Cedarville and Long Beach State.
Kevin Atilla, HPU: The junior guard went 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 in 3-point shots, and 2-for-2 from the line in a win over Menlo.
Marko Cukic, HPU: The senior center scored 13 points with five rebounds and an assist in the win over Menlo.
DeAndre Medlock, BYUH: The junior center scored a combined 38 points in losses to Cedarville and Long Beach State.
Bennie Murray, Chaminade: The senior guard had a combined 35 points as the Silverswords fell to Cedarville and Hawaii.
Malte Ziegenhagen, HPU: The sophomore guard scored 17 points and added five rebounds in a win over Menlo.
