The Kahala Nui retirement community donated $45,000 to Aloha United Way.
The money will be evenly distributed among Kokua Kalihi Valley, Project Dana and Catholic Charities Hawaii in support of their outreach to seniors.
Since 2009 Kahala Nui has contributed more than $167,000 through its Social Accountability Program.
Catholic Charities Hawaii offers services that help seniors maintain independence. Seniors may receive case management, transportation support, affordable housing, respite for caregivers, socialization and volunteer opportunities.
Kokua Kalihi Valley provides an elder care program that helps seniors stay active. The organization’s services also include case management and caregiver support.
Project Dana is a volunteer program that provides a variety of services to the frail elderly and disabled. Volunteers provide companionship, respite services, family caregiver support and even transportation to medical appointments and important destinations.
OTHER GRANTS
» Servco Auto Leeward Chevrolet donated 2,000 fundraiser tickets, a $200 American Express gift card and $500 to Hawaii Rush Soccer Club, a 600-member youth soccer organization based in Pearl City.
Hawaii Rush Soccer Club will also receive sports equipment, including large mesh equipment bags, cones, scrimmage vests and portable goals, as well as hundreds of practice T-shirts for volunteer coaches and players, Servco said in a news release.
» Duke’s Waikiki employees donated $2,100 worth of toys for the holidays to more than 100 children at the Waikiki Community Center and Jefferson Elementary School.
» The Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture (INPEACE) said in a news release it was awarded a $200,000 grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to make health improvements in the Nanakuli-Waianae communities through education and partnerships.
The overall grant will support an initiative called Hawai‘i Community and Schools Partnership Innovation, integrating community resources such as social support services, education and health care to improve learning and build stronger families on the Leeward Coast.
