Announced back in September, the official name change from the Imperial Palace to The Quad took place last week in Las Vegas.
Concurrent with the change, renovations are under way that will eventually encompass improvements to the exterior facade, porte-cochere, front desk, bell desk, lobby, casino floor, retail promenade and dining levels of the resort. All work is scheduled to be completed by late 2013. The Quad will be the anchor casino for the Linq retail project opening next year at center Strip.
» America’s Party: Final details regarding the New Year’s Eve "America’s Party" fireworks display on the Strip have been released. The eight-minute, 12-second show will feature 88,000 fireworks explosions, which will be set off from seven casino rooftops and be synced to music "geared toward mostly the younger generation." About 300,000 visitors are expected to come to town to see it.
» Steak and eggs: The Palms is running a $6.99 steak and eggs special daily in the 24 Seven Cafe. It’s a good meal for the price, served in a convenient 10 a.m.-to-10 p.m. window, and there are other specials running concurrently.
» Roseanne at the Trop: Roseanne Barr will perform in an extended run at the Tropicana’s Laugh Factory beginning Jan. 14 and running through March 3. Ticket prices have not been released.
» Big Jackpot: The Megabucks jackpot was hit for $17.3 million at M Resort. If it seems like a long time since there’s been a Megabucks winner, it’s because it has been. The last in Las Vegas was at Aria in January 2011.
