School put on lockdown following fight
Waianae High School was placed on lockdown for about 45 minutes Friday after a 19-year-old student was cut with a knife during a fight with another student just before the lunch period.
The student received multiple cuts, including one to the shoulder, and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center for treatment, said Donalyn Dela Cruz, state Department of Education spokeswoman.
The Department of Emergency Services said the victim went to Queen’s in serious condition.
The incident began at 12:17 p.m. at an outdoor basketball court while other students were still in class, Dela Cruz said. A school employee broke up the fight, she said. No other students were involved.
The suspect, of a Lahaina Street address and also 19, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and criminal property damage.
The lunch period was delayed for about 45 minutes because of the lockdown, Dela Cruz said.
Mo-ped driver crashes into city bus
A 35-year-old woman was seriously injured when the mo-ped she was driving collided with a city bus at Kapiolani Boulevard and Hauoli Street late Friday afternoon.
According to police, the woman was traveling mauka on Hauoli Street when she collided with the bus, which was headed in the Diamond Head direction on Kapiolani, at about 4:45 p.m.
Neither the driver of the bus nor any of his passengers were injured.
The mo-ped driver was transported to a local trauma center by paramedics.

Cyclist’s body found on Maui
A female tourist from the Netherlands was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Waihee, Maui, on Friday after officials received a report of a bicyclist going off the road there, Maui officials said.
A county news release said officials were alerted to the incident at 2:51 p.m. Rescue personnel went to mile marker 8 on Kahekili Highway near Makamakaole, rappelled about 125 feet down the cliff and found the woman’s body.
The victim, a 29-year-old woman from Amsterdam, was pronounced dead at the scene.
