Motorcyclist hurt in freeway crash
A 59-year-old motorcyclist from Kapolei was in critical condition Sunday afternoon after crashing into a guardrail on the Moanalua Freeway.
According to police, the man was seen racing his 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle through traffic against a red 2010 Dodge Charger shortly before the crash.
The man was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. He was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services.
The Charger fled the scene.
The crash occurred at 1:38 p.m. in the westbound lanes approaching the Tripler offramp.
Police said excessive speed was a likely factor in the crash.
The westbound lanes were closed for about two hours following the crash, creating a massive traffic jam.
According to Emergency Medical Services, a 15-year-old girl was transferred to a hospital in stable condition from the same crash scene. It was unclear how she was injured.
Car runs over girl, 4, badly injuring her
A 4-year-old girl was in serious condition Sunday afternoon after she was apparently run over by a car in a Navy housing area.
The incident occurred at Catlin Drive and Gillespie Lane at about 5:30 p.m. No other details were available.
Waianae man jailed over alleged assault
A 29-year-old Waianae man has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a 42-year-old man with a dangerous instrument Friday.
Iokepa Keliikuli was charged Sunday with second-degree assault.
His bail has been set at $50,000.
Hiker succumbs to wounds from fall
A 27-year-old man who fell approximately 30 feet Saturday while hiking along the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail died Sunday.
The man, believed to be in the military and stationed here, climbed to an area outside the actual trail above the lighthouse on Saturday afternoon, then lost his footing and fell, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. James Todd.
The man was taken in critical condition to a local hospital and died early Sunday morning.
