Three masked intruders beat and robbed a Waialua couple in their home Wednesday night, the second home invasion involving armed robbers in as many nights.
Three robbers with bandannas over their faces entered the Waialua home at 8:45 p.m., police said. One of them hit a 66-year-old male resident with the butt of a handgun. Another masked robber was armed with a rifle.
The intruders tied him and a 60-year-old woman and took money and other valuables, police said.
The day before, three men claiming to be law enforcement officers broke into an Ewa Beach home and robbed a 66-year-old man.
No arrests have been made in either case.
Police said the two cases are not related but declined to say whether the victims and suspects knew each other in either case.
Michelle Yu, a police spokeswoman, said home invasions are rare but that those that occur are seldom random.
"In a majority of cases, the suspect knows someone who lives at the home. In many instances, drugs or other illegal activity are involved," Yu said.
Yu advises residents to keep their doors locked when at home and to not open their doors for suspicious persons.
