Man charged in New Year’s Day shooting
Police on Friday arrested a suspect in connection with a New Year’s Day shooting in the Salt Lake area, police said.
The suspect, a 26-year-old man, allegedly pointed a semiautomatic pistol at two men in their 30s and a 25-year-old woman about 2:25 a.m. Jan. 1 and fired at least six shots toward them, the victims told police.
A bullet grazed one of the victims, and he was treated on-scene by Emergency Medical Services, police said.
The suspect was identified by two of the victims and arrested at 3 p.m. Friday on one count of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and firearms and ammunition violations, police said.
According to police records, officers recovered casings from a .45 caliber firearm at the scene of the incident.
Police said the suspect has not yet been charged.
Suspect arrested after attacking officer
A 36-year-old man was arrested in the Kalihi area Friday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted a Honolulu Police Department officer, police said.
Police said the suspect assaulted the officer while the officer was investigating an unrelated incident just after 3 p.m.
While the officer was conducting his investigation, police said he also discovered that the suspect had recently shoplifted from a nearby store.
Police seek 5 men for robbery-kidnapping
Honolulu police are searching for five men in connection with a robbery and kidnapping that occurred Friday afternoon, police said.
A 29-year-old man told police that he was forced at gunpoint by five masked men into a car and had a bag placed over his head while being driven around.
The men stole $2,000 in cash from the victim and held him down in the car for most of the ride, police said. He escaped in the Haleiwa area and called for help.
Police said the victim thinks the suspects might have been armed with a pistol, revolver or an assault rifle.
The incident occurred from 2 to 3 p.m., police said.
Search under way for Kaaawa robber
A 27-year-old woman reported being robbed at gunpoint about 9 p.m. Friday in the Kaaawa area, police said.
The woman told police that a masked man stole some of her personal property and fled the area on foot.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
Head-on collision seriously injures 2
Honolulu police reopened Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo, which was closed for about 11⁄2 hours Saturday because of a traffic accident.
The closure was between Bell and Nalu streets.
Emergency Medical Services said a head-on collision occurred on the highway between Sea Life Park and Shriners Beach Club at 8:46 a.m.
Two men, one 50 years old and one 60, were transported in serious condition to a trauma center, and a 35-year-old man refused treatment at the scene, EMS said.
The road was reopened at 10:12 a.m.
