Skydivers injured in separate incidents
Two people were injured Saturday in separate skydiving accidents on the North Shore.
A 26-year-old man was transported to a trauma center in serious condition, Emergency Medical Services said.
The man is a visitor and was flying alone, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
His parachute became tangled as he approached for his landing about 1:15 p.m., and he went slightly off course, landing in the Camp Mokuleia area, the spokesman said.
The diver told emergency responders that he hit a few ironwood trees on his way down and complained of pain in his left thigh before being treated and transported by EMS.
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old woman was seriously injured when she collided with another skydiver in the air about 3 p.m., also on the North Shore.
EMS said the woman was transported to a trauma center, and the second diver was not injured.

Group allowed to join suit over Haleakala Trail
A judge has agreed to allow a group advocating for public access to Maui’s Haleakala Trail to join with the state in a lawsuit to open the trail to hikers.
The Maui News reported that Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza approved the move Wednesday in ongoing litigation about the trail owned by Haleakala Ranch Co., which wants to keep hikers off the trail. The move makes the state Department of Land and Natural Resources an ally of the plaintiffs instead of a defendant in the public lands access case.
The judge’s action was the latest development in the group’s nearly two-year legal battle to gain public access to the former horse path, also called the Haleakala Bridle Trail. The ranch controls access to the trail through its property.
