Hawaii junior golf taking members

Registration is open for 2013 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association membership. The HSJGA will accept new and returning applications. Visit HSJGA.org to submit an application.

The HSJGA is open to male and female junior golfers between the ages of 7-18 by July 18, who have not reached their 19th birthday or entered college, and can demonstrate a "basic understanding of the game."

Annual membership is $35. That includes a membership handbook, one year USGA junior membership, college workshops, instructional clinics, rules workshops, 2012-2015 Rules of Golf book, bag tag (one, when joining the HSJGA), GHIN handicap (donated by the HSGA and USGA) and participation in HSJGA activities and programs.

The first HSJGA tournament this year is the 14 and Under Junior Tour SeriesOahu, at Mililani Golf Club, Feb. 2-3. Registration closes Monday. All juniors participating in tournaments must pass an annual online rules quiz.

Maintainers hold scramble

Headquarters Pacific Air Force Maintainers is hosting a Mardi Gras Lunch and Golf Scramble on Feb. 22 at Hickam Mamala Bay. The event benefits the Maintainers, a nonprofit organization that supports and cares for local equipment, aircraft and munitions maintainers in the PACAF area.

A cajun lunch with gumbo and low country boil will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Foster’s Point. The golf has a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The format is four-player teams, best ball.

The cost is $50 or $60, depending on rank, and $70 for civilians. Lunch only is $10. For more information, call 449-8678 or email jeffrey.wurn@us.af.mil.

» The 19th annual Guinea Kop Memorial Golf Tournament will be March 20 at Pearl Country Club. It is the major fundraiser for the Oahu Junior Golf Association and helps subsidize junior tournament expenses. The tournament starts at 12:30 p.m. The format is a three-person scramble and the cost is $450 per team. For more information, call 808-392-3807 or email oahujuniorgolf@gmail.com.
