Pet IDs, microchips available at event
The Hawaiian Humane Society and Surf Paws Animal Hospital are joining forces for a pet ID event from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Hawaii Kai Dog Park on Keahole Street.
County ordinances require outdoor cats to have identification and all dogs to wear a county-issued license. Humane Society staff will be on hand at the event to answer questions, implant microchips in pets for $15, update microchip records and issue or renew dog licenses. The first 100 dog owners who purchase a license will get a free microchip implant for their pets. Neuter Now certificates will be available for purchase, and there will be prize giveaways.

Teen camp focuses on health careers
Teenagers who want to be a doctor when they grow up should head to the University of Hawaii’s Teen Health Camp Hawaii, a one-day event to introduce health careers to intermediate and high school students.
The free camp for students in grades 8 to 12 takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at the UH-West Oahu cafeteria.
Interactive workshops conducted by community health care professionals and medical students include how to stitch up an injury using surgical instruments and how to put on a cast. There will also be a demonstration of the healing traditions of Native Hawaiians.
The camp was originally created by a group of medical students who wanted to boost recruitment of a diverse, locally based health care labor force in underserved areas of Hawaii.
