Scott Caan‘s negative comments on Chelsea Handler‘s E! cable talk show, where he aired his dislikes and disdain for Hawaii, have triggered divisive chatter. Caan, who plays Danny "Danno" Williams on CBS’ "Hawaii Five-0," has taken on more hisses than hurrahs; the unintended conversations have had more buzz than the series’ recent vote-for-the-ending episode.
Some think Caan’s comments about Hawaii, its food, its slo-mo pace and its lifestyle were insulting and unforgivable; others say he’s entitled to his opinion; still others feel "Danno" should be booted off the show.
Now an online "Remove Scott Caan from ‘Hawaii Five-0’" petition has emerged, addressed to the producers of "Five-0," suggesting they seek a replacement who likes living and working here so Caan can go back to Malibu for his surf. And, presumably, food that does not "suck."
As we said in a blog last week, it’s been a Caan of worms for Danno. And the beef goes on. …
MEANWHILE: Alex O’Loughlin, who is Steve McGarrett in the "Five-0" unit, had a romantic night out with Malia Jones, his model/pro surfer girlfriend who is the mother of their son, Lion. O’Loughlin and Jones chose Chef Mavro’s six-course tasting menu, beginning with a Peterson Upland Farm egg with fresh truffles, the most popular item on George Mavrothalassitis‘ winter menu. O’Loughlin told Donna Jung, who is Mrs. Mavro, "I’m a foodie so I’m loving this. Your husband is a great talent." This all happened before the aforementioned Caan controversy went viral. …
HERE ‘N’ THERE: Cheers to actor-singer Jim Nabors and his longtime partner, Stan Cadwallader, who tied the knot in Seattle recently. They eloped, so to speak, without breathing a word. Gollee and shazam! …
Tony Ruivivar and his Society of Seven, classic edition, performed at the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn, Wash., recently with new singer Lhey Bella, a Filipina who’s like a Whitney Houston; Ryan Gallagher is now the lead male voice. Expats in the area flocked to see the show. …
HEADS OVER HEELS: Two professorial types — Rob Duval,teacher/director at ‘Iolani School, and Paul Mitri, chairman of the University of Hawaii’s theater department — clearly will give their students a lot to talk about. They’re both dolled up and prancing about in high heels in Diamond Head Theatre’s "Leading Ladies" play, which just opened. Duval is a redhead, à la Arlene Dahl with echoes of Dustin Hoffman‘s "Tootsie," and Mitri has a sleek, black, flip coif much like a Marlo Thomas. They’re actually portraying out-of-work Shakesperean actors Jack and Leo, posing as Stephanie and Maxine, hoping to cash in on an inheritance from a wealthy dowager. Of course, matters go awry — and laughs flow. …
Speaking of laughter: A group of former Pan American flight attendants, part of a World Wings group that preserves the memory of the golden era of Pan Am in-flight servers, had a merry time with spouses and pals at a performance of Manoa Valley Theatre’s "Boeing, Boeing."The group of 18, working to raise funds for CARE worldwide and St. Francis Hospice here, will hold their annual garage sale Feb. 17 at the McKinley High School cafeteria. Wonder if those iconic Pan Am turquoise flight bags will be on sale. …
AROUND TOWN: Aidan James, who befriended Trainwhen both performed (with Roy Sakuma‘s ukulele students) in the Pro Bowl pre-opening spectacle last Sunday at Aloha Stadium, will be seen in the "Hey, Soul Sister" hit-makers’ new "Mermaid" video, filmed here. Understand that "Hawaii Five-0" did some filming at the game, too — with co-stars Daniel Dae Kim and Masi Oka among the faces in the crowd. The pre-game show pulled in 9.3 million viewers, the game, 12.2 million on NBC. …
Train, meanwhile, chugged to New Orleans for a Super Bowl VH1 concert on Friday. …
And that’s "Show Biz." …
