Shark warning signs go up in Nanakuli
Lifeguards posted warning signs at Nanakuli Beach Park on Saturday afternoon after a shark, said to be aggressive and feeding, was seen offshore.
A spokeswoman for the Ocean Safety Division said lifeguards confirmed the sighting of the 8-foot shark and advised beachgoers to stay out of the water.
Warning signs were also posted at the park on Jan. 12 and 13. There were three shark sightings in October and November.
Ellison donates $5,000 to Abercrombie
Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison, who last year bought most of the island of Lanai, contributed $5,000 toward the campaign coffers of Gov. Neil Abercrombie, the governor’s latest campaign spending report shows.
Abercrombie has raised more than $2 million total for his re-election bid in 2014, with about $1.4 million in cash on hand. The Democratic governor raised just under $300,000 between July and December.
Abercrombie’s donors included numerous members of Hawaii’s business and legal communities, including the president of Hawaii Gas and officials from First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of Hawaii. The governor also received thousands of dollars from mainland organizations.
