The first big Las Vegas opening of 2013 takes place this week, when the Nobu Hotel opens at Caesars Palace. The 181-room hotel-within-a-hotel is in the former Centurion Tower and promises the ultimate in luxury and customer service.
Actor Robert De Niro is partner in the venture with renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and the accompanying 13,000-square-foot Nobu restaurant will be the largest of 26 worldwide. Room rates are $249-$499.
>> Big board: The giant billboard that wraps around the downtown D has been approved as a permanent fixture of the casino. These types of “building wraps” require special permission to be used downtown, and it’s expected that this decision will lead to others being incorporated into the designs of downtown resorts.
>> Plaza schleps bags: The Plaza is the first hotel in southern Nevada to offer its guests free luggage service to and from McCarran International Airport. The service is offered by other resorts, but for a fee. Working through a company called Bags Inc., guests can have their bags transported if they’re flying Southwest, Delta, United, American, US Airways, JetBlue, WestJet or Virgin Atlantic.
>> Burger and beer: Get a half-pound hamburger and a 12-ounce beer for $5 in the coffee shop of the El Cortez. The burgers are served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles, and you get a bag of chips on the side. Choose from several beers or substitute a soft drink. The deal is available around the clock.
Question: What’s the lowdown on the photo kiosk at the Palms? Is it free?
Answer: It’s called iSnap, and the kiosks can be found in several casinos, including New York-New York, MGM Grand, Luxor, Circus Circus, the D and the Palms. Walk up, strike a pose and push the button. Your photo can be sent to your own email address or the address of a friend (with a message).
You can also post it directly onto Facebook. The kiosks operate 24/7, and the photos and delivery are free.
