Nero captures Swedish diving title
Former University of Hawaii diver Daniella Nero won her first national title Saturday at the Swedish National Championships, in her hometown of Jonkoping.
Nero accumulated a career-best 262.40 points to win the 1-meter springboard by more than 30 points. On Sunday, she was second in 3 meters, after winning the preliminary and semifinal rounds with personal bests.
Her performance puts her in good position to represent Sweden in this year’s World University Games in Sochi, Russia, and FINA World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.
HPU gets Yukumoto his 207th win
Hawaii Pacific defeated Augustana College (S.D.) 13-7 in baseball on Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Marvin Campbell went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Sea Warriors (4-1), who gave coach Garett Yukumoto his 207th career win, tops in school history.
UHH takes 2 from Western Washington
Hawaii Hilo swept a softball doubleheader from Western Washington in at the Old Kona Airport Park.
Vanessa Salinas earned the pitching win with a six-hitter for the Vulcans (5-3) in a 3-2 win in the first game.
Hannah Peterson had a complete-game four-hitter in the 5-2 victory in the second game.
Hawaii Pacific downs BYUH in hoops
Skye Savini scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Hawaii Pacific past Brigham Young-Hawaii in women’s basketball at Blaisdell Arena on Tuesday.
Melody Ladrido added 20 points for the Sea Warriors (13-4, 9-2 Pacific West).
Shayla Washington led the Seasiders (5-12, 4-7) with 18 points.
>> In the men’s game between the two teams at Blaisdell, Okesene Ale scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds as BYUH defeated HPU 85-84.
Pablo Coro added 21 points for the Seasiders (10-9, 7-4 PacWest).
Malte Ziegenhagen scored 32 points for the Sea Warriors (7-11, 4-7).
