Everybody from fitness freaks to couch potatoes can participate in the CitySolve Urban Race Honolulu team competition from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, which starts and finishes at Dave & Buster’s in the Ward Entertainment Complex.
Held throughout the year in major cities across the U.S., the Honolulu race will kick off the 2013 schedule. Mitch Anderson, director of business development at the CitySolve Urban Race main office in Berkeley, Calif., said this is the third time the event will be held in Honolulu, with prior races in 2010 and 2012.
Anderson was one of the race directors here last year and said "it was just a blast." Participants are tasked with finding nine of 10 checkpoints, with clues guiding them to the next location (one "skip" is allowed). At each stop, they must take a photo of themselves as proof they made it. Some of the checkpoints will offer interactive challenges from local sponsors such as Yelp, Scion of Honolulu and this year’s nonprofit beneficiary, Make-a-Wish Foundation Hawaii.
"We’re planning other things that I want to keep secret for now," he said, "but let’s just say it’s going to be tasty."
The winning team will receive $300; second place, $100; and third, $50.
Registration fees are $60 per person by 2 p.m. Friday and $65 the day of the race. To pre-register, visit citysolveurbanrace.com/2013/honolulu-urban-adventure-race.html.
