Visitor critically hurt in kayaking incident
A kayaker was taken in critical condition from Kailua Beach to a hospital Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the call and found bystanders performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man in shallow water at Castle Beach on Kailua Bay.
Firefighters moved the man, who is a visitor in his 30s from Asia, out of the water and took over care, continuing CPR until paramedics arrived, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
Emergency Medical Services said paramedics were summoned at 10:15 a.m. EMS did not say what type of medical emergency the victim had that prompted the call.
Man charged in assault of 3-month-old girl
Prosecutors charged Friday a 21-year-old man, who is a resident of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, in the assault of a 3-month-old infant earlier this week.
Billy Groce was charged with first-degree assault and is being held at the police cellblock in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police said Groce allegedly caused serious bodily injury to the infant girl Tuesday and arrested him Wednesday on suspicion of first-degree assault.
Police would not provide further details.
A Police Department spokeswoman said Groce is not a Marine.

Visitor goes missing near volcano park
Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 51-year-old Japanese visitor whose rental car was found at the end of Route 130 and is believed to have been there since Thursday.
Police said Hiromichi Yoshino was last seen 8:57 a.m. Wednesday at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
His rented burgundy-colored Kia four-door sedan was found unlocked and unattended at a lava viewing area.
He may have been staying at a bed-and-breakfast in Volcano Village.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call officer Shea Nactor of Puna Patrol at 956-2716.
Pair sought for robbery of man in Hilo
Hawaii County police are looking for a man and woman who robbed a 20-year-old man of his iPad and electronic benefit card at 10 p.m. Thursday in Hilo.
The Hilo man told police he was sitting in a grassy area north of Manono Mini Mart when he was approached by a woman in her mid-20s and a man in his mid-30s. The man told police the male suspect demanded his iPad and EBT card and threatened him.
The victim turned over the items to the man, who left with the woman in a sport utility vehicle.
The male suspect is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 145 pounds, with short black hair and wearing a dark jacket. The woman had long blond hair and was wearing a white shirt and a blue jacket.
