Point Loma Nazarene rolls Hawaii Hilo
Weston Ehlers came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points as Point Loma Nazarene (5-18, 2-3) rolled to a 79-61 victory over Hawaii Hilo (5-17, 3-11) in a Pacific West Conference men’s basketball game Saturday in Hilo.
Derek Owens, Brandon Thomas, Michael Melonas and Kiel Myers had 10 points each to lead the Vulcans.
Sea Lions upend Vulcans in women’s hoops
Jessica Escorza had 19 points and Callie Rhoads 16 to lead Point Loma Nazarene (13-10, 9-6) to a 51-45 victory over Hawaii Hilo (11-9, 8-6) in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday in Hilo.
Kirsty Imai led the Vulcans with 15.
» At McCabe Gym, reserve Mekiala Qualls contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds to power Cal Baptist (18-5, 12-3) to an 80-46 victory over Chaminade (1-19, 1-14). Rhani Kaneaiakala had 11 points to lead the Silverswords.
BYU-Hawaii sweeps Chaminade in softball
Tiffanee Frampton and Gabriele Hawkins spun complete-game victories as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s softball team snapped a 10-game losing streak to open the season with a sweep of Chaminade, 4-3 and 6-2 in Laie on Saturday.
The Silverswords fell to 1-5.
» At Howard A. Okita Field in Kaneohe, Keila Elderts singled to drive in Erin Fujita in the bottom of the eighth inning as Hawaii Pacific (5-1) rallied for a 7-6 victory over Simon Fraser (4-7) and a split of a doubleheader. The Clan won the opener 2-1, handing the Sea Warriors their first loss.
» At Brisbane, Calif., sophomore third baseman Emily Green was 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored as Hawaii Hilo swept Academy of Art in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader, 4-2 and 8-5. The Vulcans are 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the PacWest, while AOA is 4-9 and 2-2.
HPU tops Northwest Nazarene in baseball
Senior third baseman Kale Sumner delivered a bases-loaded sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 12th to lift Hawaii Pacific (6-3) to a 4-3 win over Northwest Nazarene (5-3) in a college baseball game at Hans L’Orange Park.
