Residents exit early morning fire unhurt
Two women escaped injury when their home in the Keapuka subdivision of Kaneohe caught fire Thursday.
Firefighters were called at 2:06 a.m. to a two-story house on Apapane Street, according to fire Capt. Terry Seelig. Seven companies totaling 35 firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:26 a.m. and extinguished at 2:49 a.m.
The fire started on, and was contained to, the second floor, Seelig said. The woman who lives on the second floor was getting ready for work when she noticed the fire. She grabbed her dogs and notified the woman who lives downstairs, and they all left the house safely.
Damage is estimated at $300,000 to the structure and $50,000 to its contents. The cause is under investigation.
