Worker in serious condition after eatery kitchen fire
A 43-year-old man was taken to a hospital in serious condition Monday night after he was burned while cleaning the kitchen of a ramen restaurant at the Town Center of Mililani.
The fire, which was reported at 10:15 p.m., began when a pilot light ignited gas leaking from a corroded fitting on a gas line at New Genki Ramen at 95-1249 Meheula Parkway, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig, department spokesman.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 10:30 p.m. The worker was treated at the scene for burns to the front of his body before being taken to a burn center. Damage to the restaurant was estimated at $25,000.
