Rainbow Wahine exhibition tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale for the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team’s spring exhibition match against Texas Tech. The match begins at 7 p.m. on March 15 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tickets are all general admission and cost $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (65 and older) and $4 for students ages 4-18. UH students are free with a valid UH ID.
Tickets can be purchased from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the box office or online at hawaiiathletics.com.
It will be the first meeting between the teams. The Red Raiders were 14-18 last season, 3-13 in the Big 12 Conference. They expect 16 players back.
Hawaii went 27-3 last season and was unbeaten in the Big West Conference. It reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, losing to Washington in Seattle.
"We welcome the opportunity to play a quality opponent in Texas Tech this spring," said UH coach Dave Shoji. "We will be looking to evaluate players for the upcoming fall season as well."
Chaminade hoops team remains at No.7
Chaminade (17-8, 14-3 Pacific West Conference) remained at No. 7 in the latest NCAA Division II men’s basketball regional poll released on Wednesday.
The rankings will help to determine which five at-large teams will join the PacWest, GNAC and CCAA champions in the West Regional playoffs. The regional (consisting of eight teams) begins March 15 at a site to be determined, which generally is hosted by the top-ranked team in the region. Ahead of Chaminade in the poll are Western Washington, Cal Poly Pomona, Seattle Pacific, Dixie State, Grand Canyon and Cal State San Bernardino.
Winners of 10 games in a row, the Silverswords have already clinched a berth in next week’s PacWest tournament.
3 PacWest teams in West rankings
Three women’s basketball teams in the Pacific West Conference were in the latest top 10 of the NCAA Division II West region poll released on Wednesday.
Grand Canyon, which stands atop the conference standings at 14-3 (22-6 overall), is ranked fifth. Hawaii Pacific (17-6, 13-4) comes in at No. 8 and Academy of Art (19-8, 12-5) rounds out the top 10.
The top eight teams in each of the eight regions will make up the 64-team NCAA Division II national championship field, which will be announced on March 10.
The PacWest will crown its first tournament champion March 9. The winner will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA D-II tournament.
