Tutuvi Sitoa sale doubles as benefit
Hawaii textile designer Colleen Kimura will be closing her Moiliili store, Tutuvi Sitoa, on March 16, due to the sale of the property that houses her boutique.
But don’t worry, she’s not going away. Fans of her bold prints celebrating the natural beauty of Hawaii and the Pacific will still be able to find her textiles, pareau, aloha shirts and other designs at the Bishop Museum’s Shop Pacifica and her website, www.tutuvi. com.
With a strong sense of community after having spent two years as a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Fiji, Kimura will be hosting a benefit drive for Hawaii Meals on Wheels during her final three days of business, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14 to 16. She will donate 35 percent of Tutuvi sales to the nonprofit, which also got its start in Moiliili in 1979, with six volunteers serving six clients. Last year, the organization’s nearly 400 volunteers delivered 83,000 hot meals to homebound individuals.
Kimura, who studied art, basic textile design and screen printing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, said her work was influenced by her time in the Peace Corps, when she helped islanders become self-sufficient by developing various cottage industries. Other journeys throughout the Pacific gave her a connection to the natural environment, reflected in her strong graphic floral, ocean life and South Pacific prints.
Tutuvi Sitoa is at 2636 S. King St. Call 949-4355.

Urban Decay offers ‘Oz’-inspired beauty
Coinciding with the opening of the film "Oz the Great and Powerful" Friday, Urban Decay has come up with two limited-edition eye palettes inspired by the witches in the Disney film.
While the company named the palettes after Glinda, played by Michelle Williams in the film, and Theodora, played by Mila Kunis, fans have been referring to the palettes asbeing for the "good girl" and "bad girl," respectively.
Urban Decay says the Theodora palette of muted browns and greens is for the "fiery, strong-willed and spell-binding" woman, while the Glinda palette of silver and gold, with touches of pink, peach and violet, befits the "graceful, fearless and bewitching" lady.
The palettes are $49 each at Macy’s and Sephora, though those who embrace their inner saint and sinner might want to pick up both.
