Wet weather forecast to remain awhile
Forecasters say that rainy conditions that prompted a flood warning for Oahu and Molokai on Sunday will likely persist through today as a storm system weakens and stalls over Maui.
According to the National Weather Service, cloudy skies and rain will likely linger through today, with a chance of heavy showers. The weakened system could bring rain to Hawaii island on Tuesday.
Weak tradewinds and showers favoring windward and mauka areas are likely for midweek, with another front bringing widespread showers by next weekend, according to the weather service.
A high-surf advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. today for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai and Molokai and the north shores of Oahu and Maui, where wave heights could reach 20 feet.
Forecasters predict strong breaking waves and shorebreak, as well as strong along-shore and rip currents that could make swimming difficult and dangerous.
The weather service issued a flood warning early Sunday after heavy rain fell at a rate of 2 inches per hour overnight.
In the 24-hour period ending at 2 p.m., 3.6 inches fell at Honouliuli and Waihee; about 3.4 inches fell on Ahuimanu; and nearly 3 inches was recorded at Kalaeloa.
The rainy weather may have contributed to a landslide that closed one westbound lane of Mokapu Boulevard in Kailua late Sunday afternoon.
No injuries were reported.
Also on Sunday, the state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch issued a brown-water advisory for Oahu after heavy rains resulted in storm-water runoff entering coastal waters.

There was no damage to postal boxes and the post office will be open today during regularly scheduled hours.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Police sergeant disciplined over incident at cell
Hawaii County Police Chief Harry Kubojiri has disciplined a Hilo Patrol Division sergeant for misconduct over an incident in the cellblock on May 31, 2012.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald, citing a Feb. 20 letter from Kubojiri to a complainant, John Tredre, said there was “sufficient evidence” to support at least part of the accusations against Sgt. Darryel Tolentino. The cellblock is equipped with video surveillance cameras.
The letter doesn’t specify Tolentino’s misconduct, but Tredre, 24, of Mountain View said he had been celebrating his birthday and drinking with friends before he was pulled over for driving with his headlights off, which led to a DUI charge.
“I got my phone call and called my mom to come and bail me out, and she didn’t, and then they all started laughing, and I got mad, and I stood up and swore at them,” Tredre recalled.
He said Tolentino grabbed him by the hair and pulled him to the floor, kicked him in the side, slapped him to the back of his head, stripped him to his underwear and left him half-naked overnight in a holding cell.
