Police opened an attempted-murder and assault case following a fight between two groups of men and women early Friday morning on Keeaumoku Street.
A 26-year-old man was hospitalized and listed in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.
A 22-year-old man, whose condition was described as serious, was treated for minor lacerations and released from the hospital.
Paramedics took both men to the hospital at 4:22 a.m.
Police homicide detectives at the scene said the two men were part of a group of five young men and women who got into a fight with another group of five men and women in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant at 910 Keeaumoku St. The dispute began on the Sheridan Street side of the parking lot, police said.
The exchange of words then spilled over to the sidewalk on the Ewa side of Keeaumoku Street, where the two men were stabbed. A suspect then fled the scene.
Police have not released a description of the suspect, and are still looking for a weapon.
Portions of the McDonald’s parking lot and the Keeaumoku Street sidewalk were briefly closed near the restaurant while police took photographs and gathered evidence.
Police are trying to determine what sparked the confrontation between the two groups, who apparently didn’t know each other. Police also are investigating reports that the suspect may have been injured during an earlier fight.
