UH AD Jay to speak at QB Club luncheon
Hawaii athletic director Ben Jay is one of the featured speakers at today’s meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Jay will also be part of question-and-answer session after he addresses the meeting, which starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Garden restaurant.
Kelly Grant, the boys basketball coach at Maryknoll, is also a featured speaker. The Spartans advanced to the state tournament final before losing to Kalaheo.
The cost of the luncheon is $15.
Chaminade splits with Grand Canyon
Chaminade rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Grand Canyon 6-5 to split a softball doubleheader on Sunday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Samantha Ford’s three-run triple, Ashley Phelps’ bloop RBI double and Rayna Strom Okimoto’s RBI double put the Silverswords ahead 5-3 in the fourth inning.
The Antelopes fought back to tie it at 5 in the top of the sixth, but Chaminade (7-13, 3-7 Pacific West Conference) won it when Ford scored on Shannan Hokama’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.
The Antelopes (22-7, 10-2) won the first game 8-0.
Antelopes blank Vulcans in baseball
Michael Pomeroy drove in two runs and Derek Mendoza had three hits to lead Grand Canyon to a 10-0 victory over Hawaii Hilo in Pacific West Conference baseball on Sunday at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Three pitches combined for a six-hitter for the Antelopes (16-5, 11-1).
The Vulcans fell to 5-21 and 5-15-1.
