Man is arrested after ruckus aboard bus
For the second time this week, a man was arrested for interfering with the operations of a city bus.
Police said a 29-year-old man, who did not have a local address, refused to pay when boarding a city bus in Pearl City early Friday morning.
The incident occurred at 3:40 a.m. in the 98-1200 block of Kaahumanu Street.
The suspect argued with the 56-year-old female bus driver, allegedly assaulting her before fleeing, police said.
He was arrested for allegedly interfering with the operator of a public transit vehicle, which is a Class C felony, carrying a maximum fine of $10,000 and five years in jail.
On Wednesday night an 18-year-old man was arrested for the same offense when he ran to the front of a bus, verbally threatening the 47-year-old male bus driver and refused to move from the front of the bus in Waipahu on Farrington Highway.
Big Isle bus rider sought for touching minor
Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for harassment and sexual assault on a public bus.
At about 3:25 p.m. Jan. 28, the man touched a female minor while engaging in an indecent act on a Hele-On bus in Waimea near the Lakeland bus stop, police said.
He is tall and thin with short dark hair. He was wearing an RVCA hat and white Beats headphones with a red cord. He may be in Hilo.

Man charged in girlfriend’s shooting death
Maui County authorities Friday charged a Molokai man with second-degree murder and other offenses in the shooting death of his girlfriend Wednesday night in Kawela, Molokai.
Marlin Lavoie, 33, of Honouliwai, was also charged with four counts of firearm offenses and reckless endangering. Bail was set at $170,000.
Police said the victim, 24-year-old Malia Kahalewai, had gone to a friend’s home to get away from Lavoie, whom police described as abusive. Lavoie went to the friend’s home and shot and killed her in front of at least one of their four children, according to witness reports to police.
Police said Kahalewai died of a single gunshot wound in her chest. The shooting was reported at 9:59 p.m. at the Kawela Barns Apartments at 2626 Kamehameha V Highway.
Lavoie surrendered to police just before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Moped driver dies after crash into rock wall
A Captain Cook man died Thursday night from injuries sustained in a moped crash on Painted Church Road in Honaunau, South Kona.
He was identified as Shyden D. Bento, 23.
Responding to a 9:07 p.m. call Thursday, Kona patrol officers determined the victim was driving a 2001 Honda moped north when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a rock wall.
He was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m. at Kona Community Hospital. The victim was not wearing a helmet.
It was the 11th traffic fatality on Hawaii island this year, compared with seven at this time last year.
