Get farm-fresh eggs in Wahiawa
A boiled egg is a perfect morning morsel to keep the tummy sated and the mind sharp, and for those who breakfast regularly on eggs, there’s nothing better than farm fresh. Thanks to Peterson Farm’s Egg Room in Wahiawa, these healthful gems are just a few minutes away from my Waikele home. Eggs are sold by the flat (30 eggs) and are always bargain-priced, though prices fluctuate. At last check, prices ranged from $6.50 for medium size to $9 for super jumbo. During the Easter season, small- and peewee-size eggs are available. The Egg Room at 141 Dole St. is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. But call ahead (621-6619), since the current flock of layers is still young, which means supplies are limited. —Joleen Oshiro
Buy from Goodwill to save cash, cut trash
In the interest of curbing our disposable culture, consider getting your Easter basket at Goodwill or other nonprofit thrift stores. Wicker baskets are always in good supply at my neighborhood Goodwill in Kaimuki. They might not come in the bright colors you can find at regular retailers, but a little paint or savvy decorating can fix that. Save some money and spend some imagination. Find other Goodwill stores on Beretania Street, in Kapolei, Pearl City, Wahiawa and Waipahu, and on Maui and Hawaii island. For locations and hours, visit higoodwill.org. —Stephanie Kendrick
Slipper container holds jelly beans
Slippers seem to resonate as a pop-culture icon more locally than on a national scale, so imagine my surprise to stumble across this precious "flip-flop" filled with jelly beans at Walmart. The 6-inch box is sure to liven up an Easter basket, and once the candy is gone, it will be great for storing paper clips or hair bands. It’s a treat on the wallet, too, at just $2. —Donica Kaneshiro
Collection features pastel nail polishes
Mint green, pastel blue and salmon pink are among the spring colors found in the Nails Inc. spring/summer collection. Six miniature nail polishes with a high-gloss finish are included in the limited-edition kit. The miniature bottles look like grown-up Easter eggs in a box, and since each bottle is small, you’ll use them up before getting bored with the colors. Available at Sephora for $25. —Nancy Arcayna
Jewelry perks up outfits
If you love Easter’s pastels, this is the season for you, with spring bringing an abundance of fashion in pretty pale blues, blush pinks, light pistachios and creamy oranges. The easiest way to update your wardrobe is to accessorize with new chunky bracelets and bib necklaces on the market. I love the way the bib necklace has moved out of evening territory and into daylight dressing. The ornate, layered necklace, once associated with red carpets and ballgowns, can now perk up your casual weekend jeans and T-shirt outfit, as well as add a touch of color when worn under an otherwise staid office jacket. This one’s $16.99 from Ross (original price $48), but many styles abound at every price point at stores like Forever21 and Macy’s. —Nadine Kam
