Likelike Highway crash kills motorcyclist
A Kaneohe man died after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Likelike Highway on Monday night.
Police said the road was slick with rainwater and that excessive speed may have been a factor in the 11:40 p.m. crash.
The man was Kaneohe-bound just before the Wilson Tunnel when his motorcycle hit a guardrail and he was thrown onto the road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics said the man was in his 30s.
The man was wearing a helmet.
Police closed Likelike Highway until about 1 a.m. while they investigated the crash.
It was the 18th traffic fatality on Oahu this year.
Man resuscitated after almost drowning
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported a 78-year-old man nearly drowned Tuesday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon.
EMS said lifeguards and paramedics were able to resuscitate the visitor after the 5:16 p.m. incident.
The man was taken by ambulance in critical condition to a hospital.
Homeless man held in armed robbery
Police arrested a 19-year-old homeless man for allegedly robbing a 21-year-old man in the School Street area Tuesday morning.
Police said the 19-year-old, armed with a dangerous instrument, demanded money from the older man.
The 21-year-old man reported the 9:35 a.m. robbery to police.
Responding officers found the suspect on Houghtailing Street and arrested him 11 minutes after the robbery on suspicion of first-degree robbery and use of a deadly weapon.
Police searched the man and found narcotics, and also arrested him on suspicion of drug offenses.
Kalihi business has safe stolen by burglar
Police are looking for a burglar who stole items including a safe from a Kalihi business, police said.
Police said someone entered the business between 10 p.m. Monday and 7:55 a.m. Tuesday and removed the items.
Police opened a second-degree burglary case.
Man hurt in fall brought to hospital
Paramedics took a 57-year-old tree trimmer to the hospital in serious condition Tuesday morning after he fell in the Salt Lake area.
Emergency Medical Services said the man fell 10 to 15 feet at Likini and Ala Napunani streets at 10:17 a.m.
