Long Beach tops UH in sand volleyball
Long Beach State defeated Hawaii 4-1 in sand volleyball in Long Beach on Tuesday.
Ali Longo and Karlee Riggs earned the Rainbow Wahine’s only point with a 21-18, 21-17 win over Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Libby Fontanilla.
UH’s Britos moves into a tie for 36th place
Hawaii’s Ka‘ili Britos shot a 1-over 73 Tuesday to move into a tie for 36th place in the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Bay Course at Kapalua on Maui.
Britos is 14 strokes behind the leader, Tonje Daffinrud of Denver.
Hawaii is in 17th place out of 18 teams. Hawaii Hilo is in last place.

Dalen Yamauchi led the Vulcans with a three-round total of 10-over 226. He was 15 shots behind medalist Will Flitcroft of Chico State.

Mike Klem of the Seasiders tied for 10th at 7-over 223, 14 shots behind medalist Jimmy Kozikowski of Grand Canyon.
Alvarez is Big West athlete of the week
Hawaii’s Amanda Alvarez was named the Big West Conference’s field athlete of the week after her performance last week in the USC Invitational.
The senior placed second in the long jump and triple jump in UH’s first outdoor competition of the season. Her triple jump of 42 feet, 2.25 inches is a school record and ranks third nationally.
UHH splits 2 with Azusa Pacific
The Hawaii Hilo baseball team split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, winning the first game 4-1 before losing the second 1-0 on a walk-off homer by the Cougars’ Ritchie Brown.
The Vulcans (7-23-1, 6-17-1) got a strong outing from Jordan Kurosawa in the first game. The freshman right-hander allowed one run on seven hits and a walk over 72⁄3 innings. Sheldon Shishido finished the game to get the save. Shishido also relieved Jeremy Dela Cruz in the second game, but gave up the homer to Brown with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Dela Cruz threw 72⁄3 scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits and three walks.
Hawaii Pacific and Azusa Pacific split
Kristen Caskey pitched a four-hitter to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 3-1 victory over Azusa Pacific in the first game of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader split Tuesday in Kaneohe.
Keila Elderts had two hits, including a double, and a stolen base for the Sea Warriors.
In the second game, the Cougars (15-13, 8-8) pounded 16 hits on the way to a 9-6 win.
Madison Hernandez led the way with three hits and two RBIs, and Heather Koch contributed with three hits and an RBI.
Nicole Morrow went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for HPU (11-11, 4-8).
