Snorkeler dies at Hanauma Bay
A 72-year-old woman died Wednesday after being pulled from the waters at Hanauma Bay, police said.
The woman’s relative found the woman, who had been snorkeling, about 15 to 20 yards offshore, brought her to shore and alerted lifeguards at about 2 p.m., Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright said. The woman is a visitor from Korea.
Lifeguards began cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued CPR and took her by ambulance to a hospital in extremely critical condition. Authorities said the woman’s death may have been due to cardiac arrest
Crash victim identified as Kaneohe man
A motorcyclist killed in a Monday night crash on Likelike Highway was identified Wednesday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as William Finfrock, 32, of Kaneohe.
Finfrock died of head injuries, the office said. Toxicology test results are pending. Police said Finfrock might have been speeding when he lost control on a wet stretch of roadway near the Wilson Tunnel at about 11:40 p.m. He hit a guardrail and died at the scene.
Piece of heavy equipment stolen in Ninole
Hawaii County police are investigating the theft of a front-end loader in Ninole on the Hamakua Coast.
Police said a green John Deere front-end loader was taken from a property near the 20-mile marker on Route 19 sometime between 4:30 p.m. Friday and 8:20 a.m. Monday.
The loader was equipped with a yellow Gearmore grass cutter. The equipment is valued at $39,000, police said.
