Eggens lifts No. 8 Wahine in water polo
Monika Eggens scored five of her six goals in the first half, and No. 8 Hawaii defeated No. 17 UC Santa Barbara 10-7 in a Big West water polo match at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Thursday.
Amarens Genee scored two goals for the Wahine (12-7, 3-0), who led 10-3 before the Gauchos (16-9, 1-2) rallied.
Chaminade sweeps Dominican in softball
Brett Aspel allowed just one earned run in 10 innings in a 4-2 first-game victory, and Kaitlyn Watanabe tossed seven innings in a 7-0 victory as Chaminade swept Dominican College in a Pacific West softball doubleheader in San Rafael, Calif., on Thursday.
In the opener, Kori Berinobis, who went 2-for-5, drove in her twin sister Kelsea with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th. In the second game, Rayna Strom-Okimoto went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to support Watanabe and the Silverswords (11-13, 7-7). The Penguins are 5-27 and 0-14.
Azusa Pacific sweeps BYUH in softball
Taryn Devich struck out 11 for a 2-0 victory in the opener to help Azusa Pacific (17-13, 9-9 PacWest) sweep Brigham Young-Hawaii (5-27, 2-14) in PacWest softball at Sand Island field on Thursday. The Cougars won the second game 10-2.
Kozuma shoots 68 at Stanford tourney
University of Hawaii Hilo’s Corey Kozuma shot 2-under 68 and is tied for 13th after the opening round of the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course.
Seven golfers are tied for the lead at 4-under 66. Stanford leads the team standings at 8-under 272. UHH is at 11-over 291 in the 20-team tournament.
