Iraqi chefs offer pop-up dinner
Enjoy a Middle Eastern pop-up dinner by newly arrived Iraqi husband-and-wife chefs Wasfie and Inam at the Lemongrass Café Saturday.
The menu: Shorbat Addass (spicy lentil soup), Saladat Lahana (cabbage salad), Saladat Fatoosh (salad tossed with pieces of pita bread), Potato Chap Cooba (a beef and potato salad), Biryani Dejaj (chicken, potato, nuts and Arabic spices), Biryani Robyan (shrimp with spicy rice), Dolmah (minced meat with rice and spinach), Mahalabi (cardamom cream pie) and Arabic chai tea. Libations include a lemongrass-spiced limeade, beer on tap from Big Aloha Beer and various wine and beer.
Cocktails begin at 6 p.m.; dinner is at 6:30. Cost is $45; reserve a seat by Friday at 521-7041 or email laurien@pacificgatewaycenter.org.
Learn to field the right fungi
If you’re on Hawaii island, take in a lecture on local mushrooms and find out which ones are safe to eat, 7 p.m. Monday at the Lyman Museum.
Don Hemmes, biology professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, will discuss native and endemic species and how to distinguish edible mushrooms from poisonous ones.

Cones are free on special day
Ben & Jerry’s fans have one more excuse to partake of the ice cream: Free Cone Day, which runs noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Windward Mall location.
All small cones are free. It’s the shop’s way of saying thanks to customers.
Events benefit charity walk
Two Waikiki hotels are holding fundraisers for the annual Oahu Visitor Industry Charity Walk:
» A farmers market offering fresh local produce and baked goods will be held at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 10. Enjoy a rummage sale as well. Call Joel Johnson or Shirley Chan at the hotel at 956-1111, ext. 4035. The hotel is at 100 Holomoana St.
» "Chefs & Slippahs," featuring the cuisine of chefs Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi, Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas’ Hiroshi Fukui, Nobu Waikiki’s Joel Capinpin and Halekulani’s Vikram Garg, will be held 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 19 at the Halekulani.
