Volcano man held in burglaries
A 22-year-old man who ran into a glass door at a Hilo mall Monday while allegedly trying to evade police has been charged with robbery and a drug probation violation.
Kyson Kaleiwahea of Volcano, who was wanted on outstanding warrants and for questioning in connection with burglaries in Hilo, tried to run from police at Prince Kuhio Plaza and ran into a glass door at a department store, cracking the glass, police said.
Officers arrested him on three warrants, one for violating probation in a drug case and two for violating probation in burglary cases. His bail was set at $150,000.
Airlines told to watch for felon
The state Sheriff’s Division has issued a bulletin to airlines to be on the lookout for a 34-year-old felon considered armed and dangerous.
Richard Kauvaka is wanted for violating parole and is suspected of felony crimes, the March 28 bulletin said.
He may be attempting to leave for Maui or California, the bulletin said.
He is described as 6 feet 1, 300 pounds and he has an "R" tattoo on his left thumb.
