AJA baseball finals at Murakami
The Maui Daimyo face the Keaukaha Warriors from Hawaii island, and the Kalaheo Farmers of Kauai take on Oahu’s McCully in Saturday’s semifinals of the 78th AJA Baseball Association Hawaii State Championship Tournament at Les Murakami Stadium.
The first game is at 10 a.m. with the second approximately at 1 p.m. Saturday’s losers meet for third place on Sunday at 9:30 a.m., followed by the noon championship.
The opening ceremony will be held after Saturday’s first game and will honor the 70th anniversary of the formation of the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the 100th Infantry Battalion, as well as the Military Intelligence Service and 1399 Engineer Construction Battalion. Longtime AJA baseball volunteers Wendell Koga and Bert Yashui also will be honored and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch along with some of the veterans. Admission is free.

Surfers to defend masters title
Defending team champion Hawaii, featuring last year’s grand masters gold medalist Sunny Garcia, will compete in the ISA World Masters Surfing Championship, Saturday though April 14 off Montanita, Ecuador.
Also competing for Hawaii are Kalani Robb, Love Hodel, Mike Latronic, Reuben Balmores, Shuji Kasuya and Rochelle Ballard. Some 130 surfers from Hawaii, Australia, Brazil, Japan, France and South Africa will vie for the Eduardo Arena Perpetual Team Trophy and individual gold medals.

Gymnasts qualify for regionals
Team Hawaii, comprised of the top Level 8 finishers at the recent state meet, will represent Hawaii in the state team competition at the USAG Region 2 Regionals next week in Kent, Wash.
Named to Team Hawaii were Taryn Yogi, Mika Domingo and Destiny Onaka of Island Tumblers Gymnastics; Kalyxta Gamiao, Alyssa Udarbe and Aviva Urbanc of Hawaiian Island Twisters; and Tanner Danae and Megan Valente of Rainbow Gymnastics Academy.
Nine other Level 8 gymnasts and 29 at Level 9-10 qualified for the regionals April 11-14 at Shoreline Community College.
Rainbow Gymnastics Academy won the Level 9-10 division at the state meet held at Mililani High School with a 111.800, followed closely by Hawaiian Island Twisters at 111.725. Island Tumblers was third (109.050) and Kokokahi (87.600) fourth. Island Tumblers (112.650) edged Hawaiian Island Twisters (112.625) for Level 8.
At Level 7, which does not advance to the regionals, Hawaiian Island Twisters and Island Tumblers shared first (114.550) with What’s Up Gymnastics third (106.100).
Agena headlines hoops clinic
Kalakaua Basketball’s Dennis Agena is the featured clinician at the third Hui O Momilani Basketball Clinic on April 20 at Pearl City High School gym.
Also on staff is former Punahou School girls coach Mike Taylor. The cost is $50.
Session 1 is for players in grades 1 to 3 and runs from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Session 2, for grades 4 through 8, runs from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Online registration is available at kalakauabasketball.com.
Polo Club celebrates 50th year
The Hawaii Polo Club begins its 50th season Sunday with the Kahanamoku Trophy at Mokuleia Polo Grounds. Gates open at 11 a.m. with matches starting at 2 p.m. Admission is $8 for military, $10 open seating and $25 clubhouse. Children 12 and under are free.

The second Kick Child Abuse out of Hawaii Kickball Tournament is set for Saturday at Kaneohe District Park.
The event is sponsored by Providing Awareness, Referrals, Education, Nurturing, Therapy, Support (PARENTS) Hawaii to bring awareness to child abuse and neglect. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with play from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Entry fee for an eight-member team is $250.
