Brian Viloria had to travel halfway around the world to finally get his wish.
The Waipahu native will fight on the HBO network live for the first time as part of a Top Rank card on Saturday night at the CotaiArena in Macau, China.
Viloria will defend his WBO and WBA world flyweight titles against challenger Juan Francisco Estrada in a fight scheduled for approximately 4:25 a.m. Hawaii time on Saturday.
The fight will be shown live in Macau and on a same-day delay in the United States on HBO2 at different times depending on the cable provider.
DIRECTV will show the card beginning at 8 a.m. on Ch. 502, while Oceanic (Ch. 612/1612) and Hawaiian Telcom (Ch. 503) will televise the event at 11.
"This is an experience I’ve been wanting and waited for for a really long time," Viloria said in a phone interview with the Star-Advertiser on Thursday. "It’s hard to believe it’s happening, but I need to stay focused and stay grounded."
The card represents a coordinated effort to introduce boxing to the Chinese market.
Viloria (32-3, 19 KOs) is on a six-fight winning streak with three straight impressive TKO victories in championship fights.
Viloria TKO’d Giovani Segura, who was Ring Magazine’s No. 9 pound-for-pound fighter, 16 months ago in the first defense of his WBO belt.
After scoring a ninth-round TKO of longtime nemesis Omar Nino Romero last March, Viloria unified the WBO and WBA belts with a 10th-round TKO of Hernan Marquez, who was the one fighter ranked ahead of Viloria at 112 pounds.
Now the flyweight king, Viloria will face Estrada (22-2, 18 KOs), who is moving up in weight to challenge for both belts.
Estrada challenged undefeated Roman Gonzalez for the WBA light flyweight title, losing a unanimous decision on the undercard of the Viloria-Marquez fight in November.
Gonzalez won a unanimous decision (116-112, 116-112, 118-110) in a fight many thought was a lot closer, including Viloria.
"I thought the same too," Viloria said. "But (Gonzalez) did things that appeal to the judges."
Viloria hasn’t had to worry about judges since winning the WBO belt from Julio Cesar Miranda at the Blaisdell Arena in July of 2011.

Since then, he’s had three wildly entertaining fights that have helped earn him a spot on the big stage of HBO boxing.
"HBO didn’t want to have a fight where one boxer was going to blow out the other boxer — we’re pretty equal in skill," Viloria said. "(Macau) is pulling out all the stops with this event with rappers and singers and it’s being billed more as entertainment here than just boxing."
Viloria said he’s eager to prove lighter fighters can put on a good show, but also cautions against getting too caught up in the entertainment side of fighting.
"It’s a big challenge," he said. "It’s a big stage but I know that my style of fighting will entertain a lot of people.
"I’ve trained really hard for the fight and there’s nothing I can really do now except go about my fight plan and go through the process to perform to the best of my ability."
