Surfers find woman’s body in ocean
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in Kewalo Basin just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy Tuesday, but a determination of the cause of death has been deferred.
Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
Surfers turned the woman over to fire rescue personnel at the Koko Head side of Kewalo Basin near the former site of the University of Hawaii dolphin research facility.
The woman was believed to be in her mid-30s, police said.
So far, the case has been classified as an unattended death.
Blaze breaks out at Mauna Kea Fairways
Hawaii County fire officials are investigating a fire at the Mauna Kea Fairways resort complex.
The fire alarm at 62-3333 Ahuula Place was reported at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday. Fifteen firefighters brought the blaze under control 20 minutes later.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames in the kitchen, the Fire Department said. No one was home.
There was no immediate estimate of damage.
Woman steals shopper’s cash, police say
Police arrested a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of second-degree theft Monday night at a Pupukea supermarket.
Police said the woman reportedly took several envelopes containing cash at 11:07 p.m. from a 43-year-old man’s handbag left in a shopping cart.
Witnesses saw the theft and followed the woman, police said.
Police were called, and officers found the woman hiding in Pupukea Beach Park. She was arrested at 11:25 p.m.
