UH continues climb in softball polls
A weekend sweep gave the University of Hawaii softball team a bump in both national polls released Tuesday.
The Rainbow Wahine (31-7, 9-0 Big West) moved up one spot to No. 15 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 and to No. 20 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
UH departs on a 10-day, seven-game road trip on Thursday atop the Big West standings following a sweep of UC Riverside last week. The Wahine are two games ahead of second-place Long Beach State and Pacific heading into a three-game series at Cal State Fullerton (16-22, 3-6). The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday.
Hall of Honor applications being accepted
The Hawaii High School Athletic Association is accepting applications for its 2013 class of inductees for the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor.
Twelve senior student-athletes will be inducted after a selection process May 18-19 by a 15-person committee of athletic directors, administrators, coaches and members of the media.
The formal induction will take place at a June 9 Hall of Honor awards banquet at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Selection criteria is based primarily on athletic achievement, with character, academic record and community service also taken into consideration.
All applications and supporting material must be sent to the HHSAA office at P.O. Box 62029, Honolulu, HI 96839 and postmarked by April 30.

Warriors finish up at Cowboy Classic
The Hawaii men’s golf team shot a 294 in the final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Tuesday, finishing tied for 14th place in the 24-team field at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Scott Yamashita was the top finisher for the Warriors in the two-round tournament at the Talking Stick North Course, firing a 2-over 72 Tuesday to tie for 25th place at 5-over 147.
Gonzaga won the team title with a 574 total, six strokes better than runner-up Colorado. UH finished at 601.
UC Santa Barbara’s Glen Scher (138) took medalist honors, finishing two shots ahead of four other players.
Vulcans’ Hall places second in tourney
Hawaii Hilo sophomore Jamie Hall carded a 3-under 69 Tuesday to place second at the St. Martin’s Invitational Preview at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash.
Hall finished at 8-under 208 for the three-round tournament, one shot behind winner Gage Huft of Montana State Billings, who closed with a 66.
The Vulcans’ Corey Kozumi (72) finished tied for eighth place at 214 to help UHH place fourth at 866. Western Washington took the team title with an 857.
