Hawaii’s 2013 football schedule is rated B for brrr.
The Warriors will play road games against Utah State and Wyoming in November, according to the Mountain West Conference’s master schedule that was released on Thursday.
"We have to increase our budget so we can buy warm clothes," UH coach Norm Chow said.
According to weatherspark.com, the average temperatures are between 31-51 degrees in Logan, Utah, on Nov. 2; 37-56 degrees in Annapolis, Md., on Nov. 9; and 21-35 degrees in Laramie, Wyo., on Nov. 23.
UH had delayed selling season tickets until the MWC schedule was released. There were delays while the league addressed national and regional television requests.
The Warriors open with a nonconference game against USC on Thursday, Aug. 29. UH’s remaining 11 games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays.
The Mountain West accommodated the Warriors’ request to play on the road on Nov. 2. They play against Navy in Maryland the following week.
The Warriors will stay on the East Coast between the games against Utah State and Navy. But the Warriors finish their MWC schedule with a road game against Wyoming on Nov. 23.
"Needless to say, the schedule is extremely challenging to play two games in November in the Rocky Mountains, which is where I spent a lot of my career," said Chow, who coached at BYU for 27 years. "It’s very concerning. But it’s the schedule we have to play. Nobody is feeling sorry for us. Everybody expects us to play well, and we expect to play well, too. It’s challenging, but we welcome the challenge."
The Warriors technically will play another series of back-to-back road games. But there is a bye between the nonconference game against Oregon State on Sept. 7 and the MWC opener against Nevada on Sept. 21.
The extra time is important because "it’s a chore to prepare for" Nevada, Chow said.
"The schedule is really challenging, but that’s what we’re here for," Chow said. "That’s what coaching is all about."
