Hawaiiana lessons, from lei to lau hala
Give your kids a hands-on lesson in Hawaiian culture at the free Grow Hawaiian Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 at Bishop Museum.
Artisans will teach how to weave lau hala, beat kapa, make lei and more.
Exhibits and games will highlight tips for leading a sustainable lifestyle, a timely theme with Earth Day on April 22.
Native plants and local products will also be on sale.

Chefs to add gourmet touch to refreshments at ‘Iolani Fair
Come hungry to the ‘Iolani Fair from noon to 10:30 p.m. Friday and April 20 as the annual event continues to upgrade carnival food to gourmet fare.
Guest chefs Ronnie Nasuti of Tiki’s Grill & Bar, Lance Kosaka of Cafe Julia and Fred DeAngelo from The Grove and Ola Restaurant at Turtle Bay Resort will all take a turn in the gourmet food booth.
Returning favorites, including KC waffle hot dogs, huli beef sandwiches, malasadas and Waiola shave ice, will also be available.
Games, rides, a silent auction and a produce and plant sale are other highlights of the fair on the school grounds.
Free movies to be shown on the football field are "Wreck-It Ralph" at 7:15 p.m. Friday and "The Amazing Spider-Man" at 7:15 p.m. April 20.
Proceeds will provide students with opportunities for travel and exchange programs and cover competition and tournament expenses.
