Hikers lifted off ridge above Waimanalo
Fire personnel rescued two men in their early 20s who got caught on the ridge trail above Waimanalo after dark Friday.
Fire Capt. Chris Ah Mook Sang said Waimanalo residents saw the flashing lights of the hikers about halfway up the mountain and called fire dispatch at 7:35 p.m.
Ah Mook Sang said the hikers were signaling for help with their flashlights, and "they didn’t know exactly where they were." A fire helicopter picked up the uninjured men and dropped them off at Blanche Pope Elementary School.
Student accused of hitting security guard
Police arrested a 15-year-old boy at a Honolulu school Friday afternoon for allegedly punching a 54-year-old school security guard.
Police said the security guard approached the boy, who was being disruptive on school grounds. The teenager allegedly punched the woman, injuring her, then fled at about 2:05 p.m.
Patrol officers found him 10 minutes later and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault. Police did not name the school.
