We’re accustomed to thinking of Y. Hata & Co. as a food and kitchenware supplier to restaurants, school, military and other pro kitchens, but the company, which is marking its centennial this year, also welcomes the little guy.
Like a Costco or Sam’s Club — without the membership fees — Y. Hata’s Sand Island Access Road headquarters is also home to a retail shop offering bulk pantry items, meat and frozen seafood, plus chef whites, professional knives and kitchenware ranging from baking thermometers to ramekins.
If you’ve got a major appetite or a lot of teenagers at home, this is the place to pick up 7-pound cans of ketchup ($4.70), 3-pound cans of Campbell’s soup ($5.29 to $6.99) or 6-pound cans of tomatoes ($5.25 to $6.55). One of the best-sellers is a bag of McCormick chicken seasoning ($11.99) for deep-fry chicken and pork, great considerations for your next big backyard bash.
The shop is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays at 285 Sand Island Access Road.
