Dekita Williams, a former assistant coach at Mount San Antonio College who served as a student manager for the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team last season, was named a Rainbow Wahine assistant by head coach Laura Beeman.
"Dekita is an exciting addition to our staff," Beeman said in a statement on Wednesday. "She brings a wealth of experience in developing players as well as a lot of recruiting experience and connections on the West Coast. We are excited to have her energy and knowledge as part of our staff."
Williams was an assistant from 2006 to ’12 at Mount San Antonio College, where Beeman was the head coach from 1994 to 2010. While at Mt. SAC, Williams helped guide the basketball team to three California state championships in 2007, ’08, and ’12, as well as six "elite eight" junior college appearances and six South Coast Conference titles from 2007 to ’12.
Williams also was part of a junior college-record 45-game win streak. While at Mt. SAC, she worked with the guards while helping with scouting opponents and recruiting. Williams also was head coach at the West Coast Premier Basketball Academy’s AAU club team from 2007 to ’12.
Williams is scheduled to earn her master’s degree in education from the University of Hawaii in May 2014.
Williams earned her bachelor’s degree in communications in 2002 from the University of Louisiana Lafayette, where she played two seasons for the Ragin’ Cajuns. As a senior, she averaged 6.8 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game.
Williams replaces Linnae Barber, who came in with Beeman last offseason.
