Fujikawa misses out on Canadian Tour card
Honolulu’s Tadd Fujikawa failed to get his card at last week’s Canadian Tour Q-School.
He had 10 penalty shots the first two days and went into the final two rounds 11 over par. He played the last 36 holes in 5 under, but finished in a tie for 105th. There were more than 300 players in the field and 20 got their cards. On Monday, Fujikawa will try to qualify for the South Georgia Classic on the Web.com tour.
» Maui’s Sam Cyr tied for 13th at last week’s Solaire Open in Manila, the seventh stop on the Asian Tour. Cyr’s four-day total was 3-over 291 — six shots out of first — and he earned $4,161.
» Wednesday is the entry deadline for Hawaii’s two U.S. Open local qualifiers. Kukio Golf Club in Kona will be the site of the first, on May 6. The second will be May 11 at King Kamehameha in Wailuku. Applications are available at usga.org. Entries must be received by 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Team Aloha to play in Arizona
Team Aloha, the all-star high school basketball team from Hawaii, will play in the Adidas/Arizona Spring Classic girls basketball tournament Friday through Sunday.
The 10 members of the team are Aiea’s Michlae Higa, ‘Iolani’s Pua Kahalehoe, Kamehameha’s Tiare Kanoa, Casey Poe and Alohi Robins-Hardy, Hanalani’s Sarah Liva, Punahou’s Tyra Moe, Konawaena’s Chanelle Molina, Roosevelt’s Starr Rivera, and Farrington’s Jeneva Toilolo.
Genee repeats as Big West player of week
Hawaii’s Amarens Genee is the Big West water polo player of the week for the second week in a row.
She helped the Rainbow Wahine clinch at least a share of the Big West regular-season title with five goals in a win over Cal State Northridge.
Hawaii Pacific throttles Academy of Art
Tyler Tokunaga, Marvin Campbell and Jace Poole had three hits each to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 17-4 Pacific West Conference baseball win over Academy of Art on Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The Sea Warriors (26-15, 15-12) also got two hits and two RBIs each from Russell Doi and Codey Ellenwood.
