City identifies man found dead on highway
The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man whose body was found on Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo on Friday night as Marc Bucho, 42.
The Medical Examiner determined that Bucho died of multiple blunt-force injuries. The office is deferring a finding of what caused the injuries pending further investigation, which may take another week or so.
An investigator with the Medical Examiner’s Office said Bucho’s friends reported that he was homeless.
Jason Bucho, who lives in Alaska, said his brother Marc had been a heavy equipment operator but was unable to work because of a medical condition. Marc Bucho was born in Idaho, his brother said.
Visitors injured as car plunges 250 feet
A North Carolina couple survived a 250-foot plunge into a gulch after their car went off Crater Road about a mile above the Haleakala Visitors Center on Tuesday morning.
Maui County firefighters found the man and woman sitting atop the vehicle, which was on its side, a Fire Department spokesman said. The woman complained of neck, back and hip pain and had cuts on her arms and head. The man complained of pain in his ribs and had a cut on his head. A rescue helicopter airlifted both people to a landing zone, where they were taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition, firefighters said.
