Officer lauded for drug arrests
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized community police officer Tyler Prokopec as Hawaii County "Officer of the Month" for May in a ceremony Wednesday in Kailua-Kona.
Prokopec was honored for his response to complaints about a suspected drug house in the Seaview Circle subdivision. Prokopec researched the home and its residents and, with a Vice Section officer, investigated until they had enough evidence to obtain a search warrant.
The arrests of eight people at the house led to 15 felony charges for drug and firearms offenses and other charges.
