Vulcans in sixth place at golf regional

Hawaii Hilo moved up to sixth Tuesday after the second round of the NCAA Division II South Central/West Golf Regional in DuPont, Wash.

The 17th-ranked Vulcans shot 1-under-par 287 and, at 577, trail leader Cal State Monterey Bay by 12 strokes.

Waiakea graduate Dalen Yamauchi fired a 5-under 67 and is tied for second individually at 137 — one shot out of first. Chris Shimomura (75—147) is next for Hilo, followed by James Hall (79—149), Corey Kozuma (73—151) and Kyeton Littel (72—151).

All four 54-hole regionals end today, with the top teams advancing to the finals, May 20-24 at Hershey Country Club in Pennsylvania.
