Tire blowouts stop Delta flight
Several tires of a Delta Airlines plane blew out Wednesday afternoon as the aircraft was trying to take off from Honolulu Airport, the state Department of Transportation said.
There were no injuries reported and more than 200 passengers were returned to the terminal via shuttle bus, DOT spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said. A Delta representative was not available for comment.
The plane, which was headed for Los Angeles, stopped on the runway when the tires blew out at about 12:40 p.m., Sluyter said.
She said passengers were expected to be accommodated on a later Delta flight.

Valley Island beaches reopen
Beaches in Lahaina from Mala Wharf to Canoe Beach were reopened Wednesday morning after being closed for a day because of a sewer line break.
The Maui Department of Environmental Management reported Tuesday that a contractor broke a 20-inch sewer force main at about 2 p.m. at a construction site. The break forced the Lahaina 3 pump station to be shut down for repairs, which affected all Lahaina residents from Puamana to the Lahaina Civic Center. Repairs were completed at 7:30 p.m.
