After years of operating with what may be the worst casino name of all time, Terrible’s is finally changing its name. As of July the new name of the casino on Flamingo Road east of the Strip will be Silver Sevens Hotel & Casino.
The current marquee and signage — including the iconic cowboy logo, which is being donated to the Neon Museum — are being removed, and additional re-branding will be implemented over the next month and a half, in time for a July 7 grand unveiling.
The casino originally opened as the Continental in 1975, then became Terrible’s when it was purchased by the Herbst family, owners of the Terrible Herbst gas stations throughout Nevada.
» Indian buffet: Terrible’s has always had good food in its coffee shop, and that should continue at Silver Sevens. But if you head down to check it out, there’s a good daily lunch buffet at Mint Indian Bistro (730 E. Flamingo) across the street. The $10.99 buffet offers Nepali-style cuisine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week.
» Rock Kids: Starting in June, Hard Rock Cafe on the south end of the Strip will offer a free item from the kids’ menu for children 12 and under with the purchase of an adult entree. The deal will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday through Aug. 31.
Question: Last week you wrote about the open-container laws on the Strip. Am I correct that open containers are also allowed downtown?
Answer: They are in the main casino area, but not in the adjacent Fremont East bar district. Many don’t
realize that the liquor laws change as you leave the Fremont Street Experience and walk east. Away from the casinos, it’s illegal to carry liquor outside of the bars, and newly deployed "Fremont Rangers" are there to enforce the ordinance. For now the Rangers aren’t citing offenders, but simply informing them of the rule.
