Chef aims to be ‘Network Star’
Cheer for Haleiwa chef Daniela Perez-Reyes, the latest isle competitor to earn a spot on a Food Network show, in the ninth season of "Food Network Star," premiering 6 p.m. Sunday.
Perez-Reyes, a chef de cuisine at a local catering company, is a native of Peru and attended Le Cordon Bleu Peru, where she honed her skills in South American cuisine. In Hawaii she combines Peruvian and Polynesian influences in her dishes.
Perez-Reyes is among 12 contestants from across the U.S. vying for the chance to head up her own show. Celebrity chefs Alton Brown, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis mentor participants, who must prove they have the personality, on-camera charisma and kitchen chops that will lead them to the title.
Challenges include cooking with mystery ingredients, on-camera tests and more. New twists to the show are a fan focus group that assesses contestants and the return of a finalist who’s been eliminated. Among guests are Robert Irvine and Guy Fieri.
