Casting call set for ‘Godzilla’ remake
Surfers, military members, senior citizens and Pacific Islanders are among the hundreds of extras being sought for a major feature film to be shot in Hawaii this summer.
The casting announcement from Katie Doyle Casting doesn’t say which film is seeking local extras and Doyle would not identify the project, but film industry officials here have confirmed it is a remake of "Godzilla."
The new version of the classic monster movie, directed by Gareth Edwards, stars Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" fame, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, David Straitharn and Ken Watanabe.
Filming has begun in Vancouver, and the Hawaii casting announcement indicates paid extras will be needed between June 30 and July 20.
The movie industry website IMDb lists the release date as May 16, 2014.
There will be an open casting call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 629 Pohukaina St. in Kakaako. The announcement calls for "real military (to be seen in uniform if possible), local men, women and children," tourists, families with children ages 6 and older, surfers, "elderly, Filipinos, Pacific Islanders" and "all types."
Those who turn out for the call will have their photo taken and will need to fill out a form. Prospective extras should bring a resume if available and a book or other quiet distraction to pass the time while waiting. Parking will be available at 555 South St. and on the street — look for the "EYE" signs.
Doyle is not accepting phone calls about the casting.
